As we traveled through the country side on the way to a new hiking spot we noticed an older gentleman working near a War Memorial in a small town called Five Islands, Nova Scotia. The gentleman, a vet who had served in the Korean Conflict and on early UN missions was in the process of placing four white crosses in front of his towns memorial. We had stopped to take pictures of the memorial and decided to inquired about the crosses as well. I had anticipated his answer, which was that they were for the four soldiers who had recently lost their lives in the War on Terror.
Mr Ron MacBurnie places crosses in comemoration of the four fallen soldiers who died on 22 April 2006.
This message is to acknowledge the pride, respect and understanding that some Canadians have for what the military does for this great land. Here is to Ron and all the other red blooded Canadians who show their appreciation in their own particular way.
